OF BIRTH AND DEATH

I was born in the morning on April 29, 1975, the same day Charles lost his life in combat. The next day marked the fall of Saigon. My mother saved the newspaper from that day, and 40 years later still has it.

“Let us not forget how horrific war is.  Let us not blindly “support the troops” to the point where we refuse to criticize their leadership…the ones who never have to see the front lines but make the decisions that put our friends and families right there. Let us never forget the enormous sacrifices made by our servicemen and women, and honor them by providing them with the best care possible when they return from duty, and respecting them with pay that doesn’t require their families to be on welfare, as so many are. Let’s honor them by figuring out how we can “support our troops” and take care of them with the respect, honor, and dignity they deserve”.

Being that I was born immediately after he died, I do not know him or his family. I have my own life to live, my own dreams, goals, and ambitions. But in my heart, I will always carry a piece of Charles McMahon…I will always respect the lives lost in war and battle, and I will live my life to the fullest in remembrance of those who were unable to.
