This Day in History, May 4th, 1970
This is a day that I clearly remember. It was May 4th, 1970. By then I had dropped out of college, played golf as much as I could and worked at a Mobil gas station on the corner of La Cienega and Cadillac Ave. I understand that the Mobil station is still there, with the Chevron station directly across the street 51 years later !
Two months later, July 1st, 1970, the 2nd Draft Lottery was held, as I drew number 98. It seems that events in my life began moving faster then ever. In November, after my 19th birthday, I received a draft notice with a scheduled date for my pre-induction physical. It became very clear to me that no longer could I live my carefree life.
Looking back now, it feels like another lifetime ago, yet it was only yesterday.
